Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Human/Youth Development, Sociology, Education, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Recreation, or related area.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable for a Public Service Provisional Faculty appointment (see Additional Requirements for more information on this provisional appointment).
Position Summary

This faculty role is responsible for 4-H Youth Development programming in Mitchell County. It provides educational opportunities for youth in 4-H club meetings, coordinates local activities, and prepares youth for project and judging events. It collaborates with advisory groups, community leaders, public officials and representatives of intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing educational programs. It develops a federal Plan of Work that is equitable in meeting the varied socio-economic needs of the county and collaborates with other agencies and community groups to plan and implement programs.

The Mitchell County 4-H Extension program serves a school population of 1,258 with 200 4th and 5th-graders. The faculty member will promote 4-H in the classroom, at conferences, 4-H camp, and other programs, and may maintain contact with the school system and area.

This position requires frequent night meetings, some weekend work, and attendance at out-of-county meetings. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable private vehicle for official duty travel are required. Reimbursement for business travel will be provided. Transportation of others, including 4-H Youth and Adult Clientele, is a common function of the job. 4-H competitions, overnight camps, and other events are conducted at district and state levels and necessitate travel and transport of participants.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor, adviser, leader and instructor for children from the 4th grade through graduation; manage the 4-H program in Mitchell County by providing educational programs for youth in 4-H club meetings, coordinating local activities, and preparing youth for project and judging events.
  • Implement the CAES Civil Rights/Equal Opportunity plan and ensure that educational programs are offered to all people without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, or protected status.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and supervise 4-H volunteers in planning, teaching and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4-H programs; assist volunteers with 4-H Chaperone Training.
  • Manage programs that may receive leadership from volunteers (e.g., Archery Team, Shotgun Team, Horse Club, BB Team, Livestock Show Teams).
  • Prepare reports to clients, staff, boards, and public officials via mass media, personal contacts, and meetings; submit accurate and timely reports in GA Counts, 4-H enrollment,…
