Position: Vice Provost for Academic and Community Engagement

Position Summary

The Vice Provost of Academic and Community Engagement will provide strategic direction to advance a thriving campus community for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the University of Georgia and serve as an advisor to the president and provost on best practices. This position plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing both long‑term and short‑term strategies that foster a welcoming environment, thereby strengthening recruitment, retention, and the overall success of students and employees.

This position will also provide leadership for efforts to develop and support faculty and staff for professional growth opportunities and expanded contributions to the academic environment. This individual will work as a close collaborator and advisor to the vice presidents, deans, department heads and other university leaders.

The Vice Provost of Academic and Community Engagement is responsible for the oversight of the Office of Academic and Community Engagement as well as Faculty Leadership Development. Both offices report directly to this position, ensuring alignment of their activities with institutional goals related to belonging and inclusive excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate degree (master’s or doctorate) in education, leadership, or a related field.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership development and community building in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build consensus and foster collaborative relationships across diverse campus constituencies.
  • Prior success managing teams and overseeing multiple programs or offices.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Lead campus‑wide initiatives to foster community and engagement across the university.
  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance the recruitment and retention of students and employees, giving particular attention to populations of Georgians that are underrepresented (i.e., rural, first‑generation, financial need, Title I schools, etc.).
  • Collaborate with academic departments, student services, and administrative units to embed inclusive practices across the institution.
  • Oversee the Office of Academic and Community Engagement, Faculty Leadership Development, and provide guidance and support to their programs and staff to promote the engagement and career progression of academic scholars and leaders.
  • Represent the institution in external partnerships and community engagement efforts, strengthening relationships with local and regional organizations.
  • Review appeals to Academic Honesty decisions and render final decisions on behalf of the University.
  • Serve as the Chair of the Electric Mobility Executive Council.
  • Manage a portfolio of lectures and events on behalf of the Office of the Provost, including the Charter Lecture, Ethics Week, Founders Day, Mary Frances Early Lecture, and the Signature Lecture Series.
  • Lead and advise the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
  • Serve as the faculty advisor for the Graduate and Professional Scholars.
  • Oversee the State of the Art Conference Grants to bring unique conferences to UGA that facilitate new interaction between national and international scholars and UGA faculty and students.
  • Lead the Study in a Second Discipline initiative that promotes interdisciplinary research and teaching.
  • Supervise the Assistant to the Vice Provost.
  • Other duties that support the overall operations and advancement of the Academic Affairs division.
