Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education and housed in the Office of Active Learning, the Coordinator of Peer Learning Assistants facilitates the implementation and operation of the Peer Learning Assistants (PLA) program, a campus‑wide academic support initiative designed to enhance student success through active learning strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Program Coordination and Operations (40%)
    • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for PLA program inquiries from students, faculty, and campus partners.
    • Manage and implement core PLA program operations, including application processes for both faculty and students, ensuring timely communication and alignment with program goals.
    • Guide and support PLA faculty in effectively integrating Peer Learning Assistants into their courses by communicating program expectations, sharing best practices, and collaborating with campus partners.
    • Maintain placement, communication, and operational systems that enable reliable, scalable integration of PLAs across disciplines and instructional contexts.
    • Manage the administration of CRLA certification processes, including tracking completion of requirements.
    • Oversee program communication and outreach efforts to promote PLA recruitment, increase program visibility, and support engagement across academic departments.
    • Maintain program documentation, resources, and operational systems to ensure consistency, efficiency, and effective program delivery.
    • Collaborate with the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education to support the integration of AI‑enabled tools that enhance PLA onboarding, training, and reflective practice.
  • Personnel Coordination and Student Staff Supervision (20%)
    • Lead recruitment processes to support high‑volume PLA hiring each semester, including application review and candidate communication.
    • Assist faculty partners in identifying and selecting qualified PLA candidates.
    • Provide supervision, performance assessment, and guidance to ensure effective PLA performance and program outcomes, including addressing concerns with students and faculty in coordination with program leadership.
    • Support leadership development among Lead PLAs.
    • Approve student payroll for regular PLA employees.
  • Training, Resources, and Pedagogical Alignment (10%)
    • Maintain and update PLA orientation and training materials within the learning management system (eLC).
    • Monitor completion of required PLA training components to ensure program readiness, CRLA compliance, and participation standards.
    • Deliver and support PLA workshops aligned with active learning principles beyond the required UNIV 1204 training course, including peer‑led and faculty‑collaborative learning opportunities.
    • Work with faculty and campus partners to develop resources supporting effective PLA engagement in active learning courses.
    • Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and faculty partners to strengthen pedagogical alignment and effective PLA implementation, including supporting PLA‑related faculty workshops.
  • Program Assessment, Continuous Improvement, and Marketing Support (10%)
    • Collect and organize program participation and outcome data to support program evaluation, reporting, future planning, CRLA compliance, and alignment with the University’s strategic plan.
    • Monitor program feedback submitted by faculty and students and respond to concerns or questions.
    • Maintain systems for collecting feedback related to PLA participation and faculty experience.
    • Provide program‑level insights to the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education to inform portfolio‑wide assessment and continuous improvement.
    • Support social media and marketing efforts by helping promote the program and increase awareness of services and opportunities.
  • PLA & CLR Alignment (10%)
    • Collaborate with the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education and campus partners to support the development of a scalable Co‑Curricular Learning Record (CLR) framework that recognizes PLA participation as a high‑impact practice aligned with institutional competencies and prepares PLAs to be leaders in informing other students of the benefits of the CLR for their world readiness.
