Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education and housed in the Office of Active Learning, the Coordinator of Peer Learning Assistants plays a key role in coordinating and implementing the Peer Learning Assistants (PLA) program, the largest and fastest‑growing peer education initiative on campus and a foundational pillar of student engagement in active learning courses with high-volume student coordination requirements.

The program is a campus‑wide academic support initiative designed to enhance student success by integrating trained undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants into courses that utilize active learning strategies. The program supports faculty across multiple academic departments and advances UGA’s active learning mission by ensuring consistent, high‑quality PLA support in student‑centered classroom environments.

This position facilitates the implementation and operations of the PLA program across its full operational lifecycle. The Coordinator leads the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of hundreds of undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants each semester, serves as the primary point of contact for faculty and student participants, and oversees a multi‑layer operational system supporting large‑scale implementation.

The Coordinator works closely with faculty, campus partners, and Office of Active Learning staff including the Peer Tutoring Coordinator, Academic Coaching Coordinator, and Payroll Specialist to facilitate program logistics, maintain policies and records, support program assessment, and ensure consistent communication with stakeholders across campus.

The Coordinator serves as a primary operational point of contact for students and faculty participating in the PLA program and assists in implementing program initiatives designed to strengthen a large‑scale, campus‑wide academic support program that enhances student engagement and learning in active learning environments while supporting holistic student development and promoting academic success and leadership development among undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants.
