Position Summary
This is a permanent, part‑time, non‑benefited position as an Environmental Educator at Rock Eagle 4‑H Center in Eatonton, Georgia. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects offered include life and earth science, ecology, herpetology, survival skills, team building, high‑and‑low rope challenges, and pioneer living skills. The position also includes animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and support of general operations of the center, as well as lifeguard duties as needed.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred qualifications:
Certified lifeguard and first aid training through American Red Cross (training will be provided if not currently held).
- Commitment, genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, well‑developed communication skills, creativity, and leadership ability
- Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to K‑12 grade youth
- Broad knowledge of outdoor education and ability to work in an outdoor setting
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work with and care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others)
- Work when exposed to outdoor elements, including but not limited to adverse physical and weather conditions
- Lift 20‑40 pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily
- Driving as needed to perform job duties
- Completion of the Red Cross Lifeguard Pre‑Requisite Test
- Independently lead K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting for 1‑2 or 3‑day field studies.
- Teach classes and implement new, innovative, academic, and research‑based curriculum in keeping with state and national standards.
- Maintain and clean facilities and grounds; provide general support of overall center operations.
- Office and reception work; schedule school and conference group visits; maintain the master calendar for the 4‑H Center; support conference group activities; handle on‑call duties and light maintenance projects; manage canteen operations.
- Animal care and maintenance of teaching areas, including the herpetology lab.
