Quitman County 4-H Educator

Position Summary

The 4-H County Extension Educator position is an exempt professional staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for the delivery of the 4-H program within the assigned county. A high level of independent judgment is used to effectively carry out the essential duties of the job and the incumbent is expected to manage both 4-H education delivery and Extension program administration by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate.

This role works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff where applicable and is administratively responsible to the appropriate County Extension Coordinator and the District Extension Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Proficient in typing, filing, and computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office and Quick Books.
  • Work in this occupation is by nature a combination of office and field work.
  • Ability to work and travel with the 4-H Youth program.
  • Effective communication skills – oral and written
Physical Demands
  • Some degree of physical activity to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, demonstration materials, and audio‑video equipment)
  • Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time. Withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities.
  • Travel to various 4‑H events and competitions within the state and possibly nationally.
  • Occasionally work extended hours (past eight hour work day and forty hour work week), including some nights and weekends.
  • Driving as needed to perform job responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach 4‑H Educational Learning programs in the classroom.
  • Direct 4‑H'ers in preparation for the 4‑H competitive events including project achievement, judging teams, etc.
  • Conduct in school club meetings and deliver the prepared curriculum that meets state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines. Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs under the direction of 4‑H Agent and District Program Development Coordinator 4‑H.
  • Transport or arrange for transportation of 4‑H'ers to various district and state events and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.
  • Publicize programs and workshops offered in local county or nearby counties to clientele.
  • Show high standards of professionalism in personal contacts, appearance, and work habits.
  • Maintain office inventory of office supplies and materials as needed to support the 4‑H program.
  • Regularly participate in staff conferences (using them for planning and evaluation of joint activities) and share ideas among all co‑workers, leaders, district staff, and specialists to promote teamwork.
  • Utilize current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching as mandated by GA 4‑H.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and help supervise 4‑H volunteers in planning, teaching, and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4‑H programs. Assist interested volunteers in the successful completion of the 4‑H Chaperone Training.
  • Assist staff with day‑to‑day operations of Cooperative Extension county office by answering phone, processing mail, distributing publications, greeting visitors, filing documents, etc. (when needed).
  • Attend required 4‑H events as assigned by the 4‑H Agent, County Coordinator, or District Personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by Lead 4‑H Agent and County Coordinator.
Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
