Position Summary
Assistant or Associate Professor – Meat Science Extension and Teaching. This is a nine‑month, tenure‑track or tenured appointment (65% Extension, 30% Teaching, 5% Service) with two months of summer salary (11.111% per month) at the University of Georgia, Department of Animal & Dairy Science (ADS), Athens Campus.
Minimum QualificationsApplicants should hold a Ph.D. in animal science, meat science, or a closely related field.
Major Responsibilities- Develop and lead a nationally/internationally recognized meat science Extension program.
- Interact with industry, county agents, and other scientists to develop a state‑of‑the‑art information/technology transfer program for the meat industry.
- Serve as a resource on meat processing, fresh and processed meat production, and meat evaluation.
- Provide HACCP training to 4‑H and FFA meat‑judging coaches.
- Develop or contribute to a comprehensive meat science curriculum covering meat evaluation, fresh meats, and processed meats.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Mentor students interested in industry work experiences/internships.
- Lead students in extracurricular learning experiences.
- Provide guest lectures to support existing courses.
- Develop an externally funded applied research program.
- Teach undergraduate courses in meat science and a graduate course in the candidate’s area of expertise.
To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least five full years in rank at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates eligible for tenure upon appointment must be appointed as an Associate Professor, be tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the University of Georgia.
Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification- A proven record of excellence in meat science.
- A record of carrying and publishing innovative research, securing extramural funding, and a background in intercollegiate meat judging.
