The Cultural and Historic Interpretation Leader will be supporting daily operations at multiple Gwinnett County historic sites and may work out of several locations throughout the county. The incumbent will be performing a wide range of administrative tasks, as well as greeting visitors and providing tours.
Essential Duties- Assisting with historic research, data entry, exhibit development, oral history interviews, and historic site asset management
- Ensuring daily maintenance of facilities and grounds, including opening & closing buildings, general housekeeping & maintenance duties, and ensuring the facility is in safe condition
- Answering phone calls and on-site inquiries
- Assisting with completing daily, weekly, and monthly recordkeeping
- Working with volunteers and interns
- Performing miscellaneous tasks associated with running a local historic museum or site
- Remaining available for weekend and evening work
- Providing tours of historic sites to groups of visitors
Job Requirements /Information
- This job requires fingerprinting: candidates must undergo a comprehensive background check and obtain a satisfactory determination from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
$16.80/hour
Minimum Qualifications- Associate's degree in history, museum studies, public history, education, anthropology, archeology, American studies, library science, political science, or other related humanities or social science degree, AND
- One year of experience in historic preservation, artifact management, oral history, research, education, or a related field
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Valid driver's license
- Bachelor's degree in history, museum studies, public history, education, anthropology, archeology, American studies, library science, political science, or other related humanities or social science degree
- Two years of experience in historic preservation, artifact management, oral history, research, education, or a related field
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
