Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Coordinator of Peer Education and housed in the Office of Active Learning, the Coordinator of Peer Learning Assistants plays a key role in coordinating and implementing the Peer Learning Assistants (PLA) program, the largest and fastest growing peer education initiative on campus and a foundational pillar of student engagement in active learning courses with high-volume student coordination requirements.

The program supports faculty across multiple academic departments and advances UGA's active learning mission by ensuring consistent, high-quality PLA support in student-centered classroom environments.

This position facilitates the implementation and operations of the PLA program across its full operational lifecycle. The Coordinator leads the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of hundreds of undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants each semester, serves as the primary point of contact for faculty and student participants, and oversees a multi-layer operational system supporting large-scale implementation.

The Coordinator works closely with faculty, campus partners, and Office of Active Learning staff including the Peer Tutoring Coordinator, Academic Coaching Coordinator, and Payroll Specialist to facilitate program logistics, maintain policies and records, support program assessment, and ensure consistent communication with stakeholders across campus.

The Coordinator serves as a primary operational point of contact for students and faculty participating in the PLA program and assists in implementing program initiatives designed to strengthen a large-scale, campus-wide academic support program that enhances student engagement and learning in active learning environments while supporting holistic student development and promoting academic success and leadership development among undergraduate Peer Learning Assistants.

  • Understanding of student development theory, academic coaching, holistic student support, and student success, with demonstrated experience implementing student-focused programs and workshops.
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of different student populations, and the ability to plan and deliver responsive programming that enhances their academic and personal success.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate logistics and execute events and programs with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various student populations and campus stakeholders.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and supervising student staff, including providing constructive feedback and supporting their professional development.
  • Knowledge of UGA campus systems, digital communication tools, social media platforms, and basic design or web content tools to support programming and outreach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to use AI-enabled tools that support student onboarding, training, or reflective practice is preferred.

Program Coordination and Operations
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for PLA program inquiries from students, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Manage and implement core PLA program operations, including application processes for both faculty and students, while ensuring timely communication, coordination, and alignment with program goals.
  • Guide and support PLA faculty in effectively integrating Peer Learning Assistants into their courses by communicating program expectations, sharing best practices, and collaborating with campus partners to facilitate successful implementation across academic departments.
  • Maintain placement, communication, and operational systems that enable reliable, scalable integration of PLAs across disciplines and instructional contexts.
