Assistant Director for Faculty and Staff Initiatives

The Assistant Director of Faculty and Staff Initiatives supports the implementation and coordination of professional learning and engagement opportunities for faculty and staff within the Office of Academic and Community Engagement. Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Engagement, this position plays a key role in executing university‑wide faculty and staff engagement initiatives led by the Office, including a structured certificate program and unit‑specific professional development offerings.

The role serves as the primary facilitator and operational lead for an open‑enrollment, ongoing certificate program focused on leadership, global citizenship, and community engagement. Responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating a high‑quality, multi‑session learning experience, ensuring effective program delivery, participant engagement, and operational consistency.

Additionally, the Assistant Director oversees customized workshops, presentations, and training sessions developed in consultation with academic and administrative units, provides direct supervision and mentorship to a Graduate Assistant, and contributes to program assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement in collaboration with the Associate Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and professional development practices used to design effective learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging workshops and training sessions that promote dialogue, reflection, and applied learning.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to coordinate multiple programs, logistics, and timelines.
  • Ability to design and implement program evaluation processes, including collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse campus units.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff, including task delegation, performance feedback, and professional development.
  • Ability to apply data‑informed insights to enhance program effectiveness and participant outcomes.
University‑Wide Certificate Program Management (45 %)
  • Lead coordination and day‑to‑day management of an open‑enrollment, ongoing certificate program.
  • Manage registration, communications, scheduling, and participant tracking.
  • Coordinate facilitators and support overall program delivery.
  • Serve as the primary facilitator for certificate program sessions, delivering a structured, multi‑session learning experience.
  • Prepare and adapt session materials as needed to support effective facilitation.
  • Ensure consistency and quality of program delivery across all sessions.
  • Coordinate recognition and celebration of participant completion.
  • Implement program structure and curriculum established by office leadership.
Unit‑Specific Workshops, Presentations, and Professional Development (20 %)
  • Serve as a point of contact for academic and administrative units requesting professional development and consult with units to assess training and engagement needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate customized workshops and presentations for faculty and staff audiences.
  • Develop and adapt presentation materials to support effective facilitation and meet audience needs.
  • Manage scheduling, logistics, and communication for unit‑level sessions, including coordination of in‑person and virtual delivery.
  • Provide follow‑up communication and materials as needed and ensure alignment of sessions with office priorities and content areas.
Supervision and Team Support (15 %)
  • Supervise a Graduate Assistant supporting program coordination and logistics.
  • Provide onboarding and training for the Graduate Assistant.
  • Delegate tasks related to program operations and event coordination.
  • Monitor progress and completion of assigned tasks.
  • Provide regular feedback on performance.
  • Support professional development and skill‑building.
  • Ensure quality and timeliness of work produced.
