Position Summary

This 4-H County Extension Educator position is an exempt professional staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension responsible for the delivery of the 4-H program within the assigned county. A high level of independent judgment is used to effectively carry out the essential duties of the job and the incumbent will manage both Extension program administration and 4-H education delivery by developing techniques and procedures as appropriate.

This person works cooperatively with all Extension faculty and staff where applicable and is administratively responsible to the appropriate County Extension Coordinator, 4-H Agent, and the District Extension Director. This position will help carry out the county 4-H Educational Program under the direction of the Appointed Lead 4-H Agent.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies

Proficient in typing, filling, and computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office and Quick Books. Work in this occupation is a combination of office and field work. Work and travel with the 4-H Youth program. Be a communicator.

Physical Demands
  • Some degree of physical activity to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, demonstration materials, and audio-video equipment).
  • Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time. Ability to work in various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities.
  • Travel to various 4-H events and competitions within the state and possibly nationally. Driving.
  • Occasionally work extended hours (including some nights and weekends).
Responsibilities
  • Teach 4-H Educational Learning programs in the classroom and direct 4-H’ers in preparation for the 4-H competitive events (e.g., project achievement, judging teams).
  • Transport or arrange transportation of 4-H’ers to district and state events and provide leadership for youth while attending these events where assigned.
  • Incorporate program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques.
  • Publicize programs and workshops offered in local counties to clientele.
  • Show high standards of professionalism; maintain office inventory; participate in staff conferences; promote teamwork.
  • Utilize current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching as mandated by GA 4-H.
  • Conduct in-school club meetings and deliver curriculum that meets state guidelines; identify, recruit, train, and supervise 4-H volunteers; assist volunteers with chaperone training; manage volunteer-led programs (e.g., Archery Team, Horse Club, BB Team, Livestock Show Teams).
  • Make reports to appropriate clientele and staff; submit accurate reports in GA Counts, 4-H enrollment, and the District office.
  • Ensure program delivery aligns with the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Equal Opportunity plan.
  • Attend 4-H events as assigned; perform other duties as assigned by Lead 4-H Agent and County Coordinator.
