Position SummaryThe Institute of Native American Studies at the University of Georgia, an interdisciplinary institute with affiliated faculty across departments, schools, and colleges, invites applications for the position of Director. The Director will be a tenured professor with a terminal degree in the applicant’s area of specialization and must be eligible for tenure upon hire. The INAS Director’s tenure home is expected to be in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences;
a courtesy or partial appointment may be considered pending qualifications in a number of other colleges.
The INAS Director will teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; serve as chief administrator of the Institute and presiding officer of its steering committee and faculty meetings; coordinate INAS programming and public outreach, curriculum development, and student and faculty outreach; lead collaborative efforts between INAS and other programs on campus and the emergent Southeast Native American Studies Consortium; and serve as one of UGA’s liaisons with tribal research partners and affiliates.

To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and CompetenciesApplicants should demonstrate an active research agenda in a field related to Native American studies, broadly defined, with global Indigenous comparative approaches welcome. The successful candidate will possess administrative expertise and be committed to multidisciplinary collaboration that advances Native American Studies across the university and with the public.
