Position Overview
The Department of Environmental Health Science and the Institute of Gerontology in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia seek a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis on One Health and environmental risk factors for neurodegenerative disease. This is a 9‑month academic year appointment with an opportunity to supplement salary during the summer. The position is a joint appointment: 51% in the Department of Environmental Health Science (tenure home) and 49% in the Institute of Gerontology, with an opportunity to work in the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) Center.
Successful candidates will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to establish and maintain an externally funded research program. Candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
Minimum Qualifications
- A doctoral degree in environmental health, gerontology, computational neuroscience, neurobiology, or a related discipline (e.g., biology, environmental science, public health, toxicology).
- At least two years of post‑doctoral training or teaching experience and relevant research publications.
- Proof of teaching experience and a commitment to student mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong academic record in teaching, research, and service in One Health with a focus on environmental factors that contribute to aging, cognitive aging, dementia, or neurodegenerative disease.
- Experience integrating human, animal, and/or environmental systems via computational and/or omics technologies.
- Clinician‑scientists (MD‑PhD, clinical neuropsychologists) are encouraged to apply.
- Evidence of ability to submit strong, fundable extramural grant proposals and produce and communicate research.
Additional Requirements
- Appointees for the Associate Professor rank require strong evidence of acquiring and administering external funding (existing grants preferred).
- Excellence in teaching and working with students.
- Commitment to community engagement.
- Candidate must be approved for tenure before hire.
