Parapro Sp Ed - PID Res/SC - Special Education

Location: Meadow creek High

Minimum Salary: $29,102.00/Annually;
Maximum Salary: $45,094.00/Annually

Requirements
  • License and Certification: Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC).
  • Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree, or equivalent, and passed the Praxis Parapro Assessment (prior to March 1, 2007) or the GACE Parapro Assessment, or 60 semester/90 quarter hours from a PSC-approved college or university.
  • Experience: Experience in a licensed child care environment (Preferred).
  • Skills: Knowledge of child development, Microsoft Office Suite, effective interpersonal skills, office and media equipment, ability to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom, supervising, caring for, and instructing special needs students in regular and special education classrooms, and assisting in implementing instructional plans, monitoring student behavior, providing information to appropriate school personnel, and attending IEP meetings.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce IEP objectives and to provide opportunities for all special education students to participate in classroom activities.
  • Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional, including diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication, etc., to meet immediate health care needs.
  • Administer tests, homework, and make‑up work to support teachers in the classroom.
  • Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students to maintain personal hygiene.
  • Assist students with disabilities with grooming, community accessibility, and other daily needs as assigned (e.g., feeding, brushing teeth, toileting, diapering, transferring to bus from wheelchairs).
  • Confer with teachers on a regular basis to evaluate special education student progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Implement and collect data under the supervision of the assigned teacher and behavioral plans designed by IEP teams to present and reinforce learning.
  • Monitor special education students in classroom, field trips, community skills, lunchroom, playground, and life enrichment activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Perform record‑keeping and support functions such as data collection, student files, checking papers, attendance, daily logs to support the teacher.
  • Provide, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., math groups, science experiments, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills) to reinforce instructional objectives and implement IEP plans.
  • Respond to emergency situations (injured students, fights, behavior problems, abusive students) to resolve immediate safety concerns and use physical de‑escalation procedures with necessary training.
  • Provide effective principles and procedures of crisis intervention.
  • Assist with monitoring duties in hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and/or bus duty as assigned.
    • Ensure appropriate student conduct during these periods.
    • Escort students to designated activity areas.
Physical Demands

The employee is required to stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear, manipulate tools and small items with hands, and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee may be required to operate a motor vehicle, work under various temperature and humidity conditions, and handle exposure to electricity, heat, noise‑producing machinery, chemicals, and solvents.
