Academic Advisor I
The Biomedical Physiology program is the first undergraduate program in the College of Veterinary Medicine. The minor was established in Fall 2021 and the major in Fall 2022. Our students are primarily interested in health-professions and life-science careers. Our program currently serves 1000 plus students.
The primary responsibilities are meeting with assigned students and students interested in the program in-person or remotely, providing each student with accurate information about the student's current progress, making recommendations about course selection for future semesters, and generating advising forms and notes with sufficient detail to document the interactions. Advisors maintain consistent contact with their students and respond in a timely manner to questions from their students.
Advisors also assist students with referrals to other units atUGAincluding Office for Student Success and Achievement, Accessibility and Testing, and the Pre-Professional Advising Office. An Advisor will demonstrate a perspective that genuinely appreciates, understands, supports, and effectively accommodates students with various backgrounds and experiences.
Regular attendance of staff meetings and advising workshops is expected. An Advisor should be available to work throughout June, July, and early August orientation sessions for incoming first-year and transfer students, as well as orientation sessions conducted in December and January.
Experience advising pre-health or life-science majors. Experience with lower, upper level and transfer-student advising. Strong service ethic as well as excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential qualities for this position.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Advising Students:
This includes meeting with assigned and prospective students in-person or remotely, providing each student with accurate information about the student's current progress, making recommendations about course selection for future semesters, and generating advising forms and notes with sufficient detail to document the interactions. Advisees will be lower and upper level students, including transfer students. Advisors maintain consistent contact with their students experiencing academic difficulty and participate in the Connect and Complete process with these students.
Advisors also assist students with referrals to other units atUGAincluding Office for Student Success and Achievement, Accessibility and Testing, and the Pre-Professional Advising Office. This position involves extensive prep time and proficiency with various campus systems, software, and resources including Athena, Degree Works, andSAGE.

- Attends campus advising group meetings and pursues certificate in Academic Advising. Works on projects assigned by supervisor such as advising resource updates, statistical reports, program related events and projects, and other duties as assigned.
