The Academic Achievement Center provides learning support to undergraduate students through one‑hour tutoring sessions and collaborative writing coaching.
Responsibilities- Complete the 10‑hour paid training program.
- Attend all scheduled tutoring or PAL sessions, arriving on time and ensuring sessions start promptly.
- Create a positive learning environment and encourage students to develop independent learning strategies.
- Identify students’ problem areas and provide targeted practice and feedback.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
- Use Trac Cloud scheduling software to manage appointments and update availability.
- Check email and Teams regularly for updates related to the Academic Achievement Center.
- Submit accurate timesheets and enter hours into Workforce in a timely manner.
- Provide academic and/or well‑being support, including peer counseling and referrals to campus services as needed.
- For PAL Leaders: facilitate weekly review sessions, plan content with professors, and communicate with faculty.
- Collaborate with peers and supervisors to accomplish tasks and improve service quality.
- Enrolled at Ohio University or an equivalent post‑secondary institution during the current or upcoming semester.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; at least a “B” grade in courses you intend to tutor.
- Completed at least one semester of college‑level coursework at Ohio University.
- Available to work 6–12 hours per week for the entire semester.
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams).
- Qualified to tutor or lead PAL sessions for 1000‑ and 2000‑level courses in one or more academic subject areas.
- Communicate effectively in individual, small‑group, and large‑group settings.
- Remain attentive for tutoring sessions lasting up to several hours, with scheduled breaks as necessary.
- Use computers and educational technology, including online tutoring platforms, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Move between tutoring spaces and classrooms on campus as needed.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- Sit or stand for extended periods while providing tutoring services.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while working with diverse student populations.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Pay Rate: $11.30 per hour (non‑exempt, part‑time).
Schedule:
Monday – Thursday 11 am – 8 pm;
Friday 11 am – 5 pm;
Sunday 4 pm – 8 pm. Tutors, PAL Leaders, and Writing Commons Tutors must be available during these hours.
