Camp Jekyll

• Independently lead, teach, and manage K-12 grade students and chaperone adults through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects include coastal ecology, life science, earth science, and marine science. (60%)
• Provide general support of overall center operations including maintenance of facilities, dorms, classrooms, education materials, and vehicles; operate a UGA vehicle; offer dining hall support and assistance; and complete projects as needed. (25%)
• Perform animal care and husbandry for residential educational reptiles, amphibians, marine invertebrates, coastal fishes, and other species. (10%)
• Lead staff responsibilities to support ongoing reservations and guest services. (5%)

This temporary Environmental Educator position at Camp Jekyll involves independent instruction of K-12 students in multidisciplinary environmental science topics and support of center operations, animal care, and staff coordination.

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or related field.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain certification.

• Teaching abilities with a commitment to youth development and education.
• Strong communication skills, positive attitude, creativity, leadership, integrity, and a collaborative spirit.
• Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to K-12 youth.
• Ability to manage groups of adults and students.
• Broad knowledge of outdoor education and willingness to learn new content.
• Effective communication with youth and adults.
• Customer service and hospitality/food industry experience.
• Teamwork and independent work capacity.
• Flexibility and adaptability.
• Animal care skills for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, etc.).
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and temperatures.

Work in outdoor environments, including exposure to adverse physical and weather conditions; lift 20–40 pounds; walk approximately 3 miles daily; driving required.
