Position: Graduate Assistant - Africa & Latin America Study Abroad Programs

Position Summary

This position will assist in the promotion of study away programs by visiting classes and giving presentations to the students. Promotion duties also include creating materials, identifying courses to visit, contacting faculty, and setting the time and date of the presentation; assisting with staffing the program table at the study‑away fairs in September and January.

The position will also assist in maintaining communication with the program applicants through the unit’s email, organizing application materials in the study‑away portal, and other related duties.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • 50% of time:
    Support program applicants with the application process and selected participants with the pre‑departure process.
  • 20% of time:
    Assist with program promotion in person and on social media, making presentations to classrooms and representing programs at fairs and other recruiting opportunities.
  • 10% of time:
    Assist with organizing post‑program activities.
  • 10% of time:
    Assist with the study away scholarship process.
  • 10% of time:
    Assist with ad hoc projects related to the programs or scholarships.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Demonstrable organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
  • International experience is highly desired, but not required.
  • While driving is preferred, if the candidate has no driver’s license, public transportation may be used on campus as needed.
Physical Demands

Lift 45 lbs. Employee may be asked to drive a state car or personal vehicle to work assignments (on campus). Employee may also use public transportation for on‑campus travel as needed. Occasional travel to various classrooms and other sites on campus will be needed. Speaking in front of a group.
