Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs

The Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs is a key leadership role within the University of Georgia School of Medicine (UGASOM). This position provides professional support and guidance to SOM faculty across three interrelated domains: faculty affairs and academic advancement, faculty well-being, and career success.

Position Summary - The Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs is responsible for:

  • Managing and updating a welcoming, comprehensive onboarding experience for newly appointed faculty.
  • Advising faculty on promotion pathways, forms, systems, timelines, criteria, and portfolio preparation.
  • Championing programs and initiatives that sustain faculty engagement, belonging, and well-being.
  • Serving as a resource to UGASOM HR, Department Chairs, and faculty members to help faculty members develop habits and behaviors for career success.
  • Offering unit level mediation services and conflict resolution support to faculty members.
  • Advising the SOM Dean, Department Chairs and HR on updated faculty policies, particularly when addressing academic productivity, timelines and behaviors.
  • Analyzing collated reports on faculty success milestones including professionalism, advancement, promotion/tenure, productivity and significant achievements; report these periodically to the Dean and faculty.
  • Leading LCME accreditation work for standards involving faculty affairs issues.

Minimum Qualifications - MD, DO, PhD, or other terminal degree in a health professions or related field.
