Academic Advisor III
This Academic Advisor III position within UGA's College of Engineering supports incoming and current Engineering undergraduate students in their academic pursuits. The Academic Advisor III position:
· Effectively facilitates advising sessions by engaging students holistically and inviting students into the advising process.
· Develops and evaluates strategies for enhancing rapport with students and campus partners.
· Deeply understands, communicates, and explains requirements, policies, procedures, and the use of student-facing technologies (Degree Works, SAGE, Athena, etc.)
· Responds to student needs and provides targeted support related to student decision-making, exploration, and development.
· Speaks knowledgeably about campus resources; makes proactive and direct referrals based on individual students' situations, needs, or interests, then follows up on the outcomes of the referrals.
· Collaborates with students to integrate degree progress, interests, and abilities into future planning.
· Demonstrates consistent, streamlined, and strategic communication while maintaining professionalism and clarity.
· Develops processes and methods for maintaining accurate records and utilizes existing records to inform advising practice.
· Demonstrates meaningful contributions to professional development events and activities or to professional organizations.
· Facilitates collaboration within home unit or department for improvement of programs.
· Demonstrates nuanced understanding of high-impact practices by tailoring recommendations to student goals, program of study, personality, etc.
· Assesses areas for improvement related to projects, initiatives, systems, and procedures; initiates action on areas for improvement.
· Will support Advisor I and Advisor II Staff in their learning.
· May partner with Director of Advising on special projects such as data reports, process improvements, audits, etc. as needed.
The primary function of all Academic Advisor positions in the College of Engineering is to administer student support to enrolled and prospective students while working collaboratively with other Academic Advisors and staff throughout the College of Engineering and across campus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Advanced knowledge of university and college degree requirements. Possesses expertise in the field, discretion, and independent judgement. Skilled in interpreting and communicating these requirements to students, faculty, and staff. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong problem-solving skills. Advanced knowledge of University's electronic student systems and databases. Effective oral and written communicator to students, staff, faculty, peers and leadership. Will establish and maintain effective working relationships for the betterment of student success, team success and continuous professional learning.
