Overview
The NEPA Environmental Specialist performs daily NEPA reviews on Department of Public Works work orders, supports federal project documentation, and coordinates environmental analysis for construction, real estate, and training actions at Fort Benning. The role includes site inspections, data collection, and weekly status reporting to the NEPA Program Manager.
Responsibilities- Prepare NEPA analyses and deliverables; coordinate with the NEPA Program Manager.
- Review project statements of work, design packages, and specifications; attend design and pre‑construction meetings.
- Support the NEPA team in executing the Fort Benning environmental mission.
- Screen and submit proposed action requests; dispatch to Environmental Program Managers.
- Consolidate on‑site reviews; coordinate compliance with Army, FOIA, and permitting requirements.
- Provide guidance to training staff on environmental constraints.
- Maintain weekly status reports and coordinate public disclosure as required.
Bachelor’s degree in a related science field and 2 years of professional experience.
Preferred QualificationsFive years of NEPA documentation experience; technical writing proficiency; knowledge of Army training land use and federal regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- NEPA concepts, local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Public involvement process and Phase I Environmental Site Assessment development.
- Real estate principles, permitting, and environmental operation standards.
- Facility engineering and environmental protection concepts.
- ISO 14001 environmental management systems and document control.
- Relationship of military training to land use and training tactics.
- Effective written and verbal communication with government officials.
- Research, quantitative techniques, and concise presentation skills.
- Strong organization, multitasking, and independent teamwork.
- Sedentary office work with periodic field visits; walking, standing, bending, and exposure to inclement weather.
- Driving as needed for job duties.
