Description
Lead Substation Physical Engineer
We are seeking a core team member to design high voltage utility substation projects.
Remote Option- U.S. candidates located more than 50 miles from Atlanta, GA office.
- Preferred:
Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Alabama. - Willingness to travel 10-20% of time to customer sites and office.
- 2–3 days in office; remaining days remote.
- In-person collaboration, client meetings, networking events, training programs.
- Balance remote flexibility with in-office engagement.
- Design conceptual and detailed HV/MV substation physical/electrical projects.
- Perform advanced engineering studies and calculations.
- Conduct quality control reviews of substation design projects.
- Create and review bills of materials; develop proposals and scopes of work.
- Prepare technical presentations for team development.
- Engage with clients, including site visits, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers; supervise up to six direct reports.
- Excellent communication with internal teams and clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or related field with 8+ years of substation physical design experience.
- Leadership experience in substation projects.
- Ability to lead bids and proposal efforts.
- Experience performing quality control checks on substation design.
- Capability to read and design substation drawings (one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation, grounding, protection & control).
- Experience with grounding and lightning protection studies.
- Experience with bill of materials creation and review.
- Experience with substation physical application documents.
- Ability to attend client site visits.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Master’s degree.
- QA/QC experience.
- Knowledge of protection and control design.
- Experience with bus calculations.
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
- Experience with SDS AutoCAD Electrical software.
- Opportunities for technical and non-technical training.
- Exposure to projects at various voltage levels.
- Participation in mentorship program.
- Knowledge of electrical power calculations and NESC.
