This is a highly responsible professional staff position working with College of Engineering Faculty and the Office for Sponsored Programs, involving the submission and approval of external funding applications. The responsibilities include development, preparation, and review of proposals for external funding, as well as submitting proposals to sponsors within DLSA limits and coordinating submission of proposals outside DLSA limits with College of Engineering Grants Coordinators and/or SPA.
The position will serve as a Decentralized Limited Signatory Authority (DLSA) and is expected to complete the necessary certification for a phase-2 DLSA within the first 3 months of employment. It will serve as a resource to the College of Engineering and investigators in the administration of sponsored projects.
- Guide and assist College of Engineering faculty through the grant proposal and application processes, including preparation, review, and submission of proposals on behalf of faculty members.
- Partner with CENGR faculty, staff, and graduate students in proposal development and submissions, including budget preparation and justifications, cost share budget development, and providing formats for proposal components while ensuring compliance.
- Provide expertise on complex regulations of funding agencies; review and interpret guidelines and policies; stay up to date on University, state, and federal policies; inform faculty and staff of changes and answer questions as needed.
- Enter transmittal forms and proposal information into the UGA grants portal and other electronic research administration systems as needed; interpret funding agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Coordinate with sponsors and the SPA office for proposal submissions, awards, and post-award actions; ensure proposals beyond the DLSA limit are submitted by SPA; assist with PI eligibility exemption requests.
- Serve as DLSA for Engineering and attend RADG/DLSA meetings upon certification.
- Coordinate with the CENGR Business Office for post-award grants administration and grants accounting, including portal modifications and terms/conditions verification; consult with SPA on permitted modifications.
- Provide limited post-award support such as no-cost extensions and award modification requests; assist with subaward contract negotiations not involving financial expenditures.
- Partner with the CENGR Business Office for faculty effort planning.
- Collaborate with Grants colleagues, Faculty, and the Business Office on budget preparation and justification review.
- Ensure budget accuracy and compliance with University and federal policies for salary, fringe benefits, indirect costs, travel, and other components.
- Provide guidance on cost share and prepare cost share commitment letters for approved cost share.
- Serve as liaison between PIs, OSP, and the College of Engineering to facilitate awards and budget processes; act as the first point of contact.
- Coordinate with the Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) office on proposal and award administration.
- Ensure that proposals over the DLSA limit are submitted by SPA.
- Contribute to the success of the grants process within the College of Engineering.
- Participate in staff meetings/trainings and complete mandatory UGA/USG trainings for staff members.
