Collections Specialist
Job Summary:
This individual participates in all aspects of the collection and recovery function. The primary responsibility is to assess the collectability of delinquent loans and focus the necessary resources to facilitate repayment with a minimum of loss to the bank. Also serves as a resource to lenders in all matters related to collection of accounts and disposition of assets.
General Description/Duties:
- Contacts delinquent customers in person, by phone, or by mail and asses the customer’s willingness and ability to pay.
- Meets in-person with clients to release and sell vehicles.
- Refers workout situations to the lender of record.
- Performs removal and inventory of items from repossessed property.
- Issues repossession orders, files foreclosures and garnishments when appropriate.
- Participates in the estimation of value of foreclosed and repossessed property for listing in “other assets.”
- Participates in and prepares documentation for the disposition of foreclosed and repossessed property.
- Prepares Fresh Start contracts and sends them to customers for signatures.
- Prepares past due letters and mails them to customers.
- Communicates with collection-related service providers such as repossession specialists, attorneys, real estate agents, and others.
- Documents the work collection file with updates of collection activity.
- Follows-up on existing and previously closed loan relationships for potential collection opportunities.
- Provides reports to management regarding the amount, value, and condition of repossessed and foreclosed assets.
- Position will be required to comply with all Federal and State banking laws and related regulations, to include but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Ability to communicate with management, loan personnel, attorneys, real estate agents, and law enforcement personnel.
- Ability to work with a team and independently.
- Must be able to travel to Bank locations and work outside.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 15lbs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
