Job Title: Criminal Investigator Internal Affairs – Central Office (Decatur, GA)
Compensation: $57,500
Shift: Day
Under general supervision, the Criminal Investigator examines alleged or suspected violations of federal, state, or local laws, rules, and regulations. The investigator determines whether evidence justifies prosecution or requires transfer to the appropriate jurisdiction for action.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and preserve evidence including reports, body‑camera footage, emails, phone records, and surveillance video.
- Prepare detailed investigative reports and findings, develop comprehensive investigative plans, and administer case management tools and software.
- Conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, suspects, and informants; oversee surveillance and use covert devices when necessary.
- Maintain chain of custody for evidence and follow all applicable laws, guidelines, and policies.
- Obtain arrest warrants from appropriate courts and testify in court on investigative matters.
- Draft reports, correspondences, and other documentation with proper format, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Perform background investigations on applicants, employees, or contractors (employment history, education, military service, professional licenses).
- Interact with all levels of state and local government to promote respect, cooperation, and excellent performance.
- Respond to State of Emergency requests, travel statewide as required, and assist with additional tasks as directed.
- Sound judgment and decision‑making.
- Effective interview and interrogation techniques.
- Knowledge of law enforcement databases, legal procedures, and case‑management technology.
- Ability to conduct surveillance, use covert devices, and interview informants.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
- Georgia POST certification in Basic Law Enforcement.
- One year of related experience, or three years of law‑enforcement or related field experience, or one year of experience for a lower‑level Criminal Investigator 1 (PSP
090) position. - Valid Class C driver’s license (some positions may require).< /li>
- Four or more years of investigative experience in federal, state, or local law enforcement.
- CVSA certification.
Statewide travel as required; moderate lifting of 15–30 pounds; normal office environment with occasional on‑scene duties.
