This is temporary or hourly paid work performing professional health care services. Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513). Positions in this job are established for greater than 9 months and scheduled for greater than 30 hours per week if the position status is permanent labor (i.e., SCOA 512).

Normally permanent labor positions are eligible for Health Insurance benefits.

The Northeast Health District WIC Program is seeking compassionate and enthusiastic Breastfeeding Peer Counselors to support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers participating in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. This position provides services in both Greene and Morgan Counties.

As a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, you will provide encouragement, basic breastfeeding education, and ongoing support to help mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals. Working under the direction of the WIC Nutrition Services Director, you will use your own breastfeeding experience to educate, encourage, and empower WIC participants while helping improve the health of mothers and babies throughout the community.

Up to 29 hours per week per week serving the Greene and Morgan Health Departments.

• Provide basic breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women participating in the WIC Program.
• Offer information and resources to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals.
• Communicate regularly with WIC participants to provide support and answer basic breastfeeding questions.
• Refer participants with complex breastfeeding concerns to appropriate WIC staff or healthcare providers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and perform basic computer data entry.
• Collaborate with WIC staff to promote breastfeeding education and support services.

• Has breastfed at least one child for a minimum of six (6) months.
