Classification & Compensation Analyst

Position Summary:

The Classification & Compensation Analyst at University of Georgia supports the university’s workforce structure by performing job classification, position management, and compensation analysis in alignment with federal, state, system-wide, and institutional requirements. Reporting to the Director, this role evaluates positions, reviews salary actions, maintains accurate job and position data, and ensures the consistent and equitable application of classification and compensation standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct job analyses to classify new and existing positions and determine exempt/non-exempt status.
  • Review and approve position updates, reclassifications, limited-term, interim, and temporary assignments, ensuring alignment with classification standards and funding authorization.
  • Maintain accurate classifications, titles, and records within the HR system.
  • Analyze internal equity, external market data, and salary trends to support compensation decisions, including reviewing salary action requests and preparing data for salary surveys.
  • Document and communicate compensation determinations and rationale to HR stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, ACA, prevailing wage requirements, and maintain documentation for audits.
  • Provide consultation and support to HR and other stakeholders on classification and compensation matters.
  • Perform related duties and project work as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or public sector HR, with familiarity with system-wide classification structures, civil service frameworks, or collective bargaining agreements that impact position management and compensation decisions.
  • Experience conducting salary survey submissions and market analysis using compensation tools such as , Market Pay, or CUPA-HR data to inform equity reviews and compensation benchmarking.
  • Strong knowledge of classification methodologies, compensation principles, wage and hour regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze job content, salary data, and equity indicators.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, guidelines, and regulations consistently and accurately.
  • Strong written communication skills, including documentation of evaluation rationale.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
