Position Summary
A professional level position within the Information Technology Services Unit of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The person filling this position is expected to have a broad knowledge of technical skills to diagnose and resolve issues pertaining to standalone and interconnected systems including hardware, software, peripherals, and network devices. The person may be an IT generalist or have multiple technical specialties such as system administration, network administration, or web development.
The candidate will work closely with and report to the college IT Manager.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Excellent communication and organizational skills are needed. The IT Professional will collaborate with other IT professionals in the unit to deploy and support networked Windows and macOS desktop systems for individual users and a lab environment. Experience and knowledge of Windows and macOS for support and configuration, MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other desktop applications such as various email clients are required.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated the ability to work independently and as a member of a small team.
Sitting for long periods, working with a keyboard, mouse and monitor. Some moving of equipment. Lifting up to 25 pounds.
Duties/Responsibilities- General Work
- Install, standardize and troubleshoot desktop systems in a complex office or lab environment using modern operating systems.
- Assist clients with questions regarding information technology use and practices.
- Support MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud and other desktop applications, including various email clients.
- Perform basic printer troubleshooting and hardware knowledge.
- Reserve and maintain the college’s checkout laptops and portable projectors.
- Assist with the management of college IP addresses.
- Assist with imaging, configuration of hardware for deployment.
- Assist with Active Directory management, joining PCs to the domain and some Group Policy configuration.
- Assist in print server administration.
- Assist in MDT management to ensure application repository is updated and maintained.
- Assist other members of the IT staff with various ongoing projects.
- AV and Classroom Support
- General classroom support of A/V maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty and staff as they prepare for and conduct special events or presentations.
- Move Computer Systems
- Move computer systems as needed for office relocations.
- Document Work Efforts
- Keep notes and documentation for work assignments.
- Other tasks as assigned.
