Network Engineer, IT Support, Systems Administrator
The Network Engineer I-OSC is primarily responsible for the support of internal and customer physical and virtual networking, and firewall management with a fundamental understanding of those specialties including any associated automation. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to successfully analyze and perform technical and process‑based problem resolution with an emphasis on customer satisfaction. The role is part of the Operations Service Center, a 24/7/365 organization, requiring shift work on the 2nd Shift (4pm – 1am) and one weekend day per week.
Responsibilities- Be a part of a 24x7x365 Operations Service Center and be flexible in availability as needed
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of assigned tasks, functional areas or projects
- Manage tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction
- Deliver customer‑focused support through phone calls and ticket‑based communications
- Troubleshoot network port, HSRP and OSPF configuration issues
- Conduct firewall rule changes and understand prefix and access lists
- Read and comprehend trace routes
- Monitor alerts on alert board and conduct basic troubleshooting
- Create A, C, and MX records using basic knowledge of DNS
- Maintain and troubleshoot VPNs and check Phase 1 and Phase 2 tunnels
- Triage and escale tickets according to QTS policy
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware and software upgrades
- Administer all network equipment – switches, routers, firewalls and associated software
- BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or other related field or equivalent professional experience
- Three or more years of progressive IT engineering experience
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches
- Familiarity with data center networking concepts, including VLANs, BGP, OSPF and MPLS
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols (SNMP, Net Flow, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Solid understanding of security and network/distributed computing concepts
- Experience with DDOS and traffic mitigation techniques
- Working knowledge of networking technologies, concepts and industry trends
- Proficiency in analysis, troubleshooting, testing, re‑creation and resolution of issues
- Knowledge of current networking technologies, including Cisco, Juniper or similar hardware
- Familiarity with network monitoring and analysis tools
- US Citizenship required by law due to federal customer contracts
- Two or more years of experience with a service provider, preferably in a data center environment
- Experience working in a NOC environment
- Related technology certifications (CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA, Network+, Security+, etc.)
- Familiarity with NSX virtual networking
- Experience with Juniper devices and Junos OS
- Knowledge of ITIL
- Familiarity with Service Now
- Working knowledge of BGP and OSPF
- Proficiency with IP subnetting
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors and colleagues
- Orderly documentation, time management and planning skills
- Excellent written and oral communication, problem‑solving and process management skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment in a matrixed organization
- Strong customer relations skills
- Ability to learn and apply new technology and methodologies in a distributed environment
