Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience to include 3 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience managing IT operations within higher education.
  • Experience supporting specialized design software, GIS, visualization technologies, CAD / BIM applications, digital fabrication technologies, and high-performance computing environments.
  • Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and project management.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CISSP, ITIL, Microsoft, AWS, or equivalent.
Position Summary

The IT Director serves as the senior technology leader for the College of Environment and Design (CED), providing strategic vision, leadership, and operational oversight for all information technology resources, services, and technology-enabled learning environments. The position is responsible for developing and implementing technology strategies that support the College's missions of instruction, research, outreach, and administration.

The IT Director oversees technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, classroom and studio technologies, technical support services, software and hardware procurement, digital innovation initiatives, and technology budgeting. The position collaborates closely with faculty, staff, students, university leadership, and Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) to ensure technology resources are secure, reliable, innovative, and aligned with institutional priorities.

The IT Director also serves as a key liaison for technology planning associated with the College's unique instructional and research-focused environments, including design studios, fabrication spaces, laboratories, visualization technologies, and collaborative learning spaces.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of enterprise technology infrastructure, networking, servers, cloud services, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience managing Windows, macOS, and mobile device ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of classroom technology, audiovisual systems, and instructional technology platforms.
  • Strong project management and organizational leadership skills.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and develop implementation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals possessing varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and collaborative leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously.
Physical Demands
  • Work primarily in an office environment with extended periods of computer use.
  • Ability to move between buildings and instructional spaces across campus.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and transport technology equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
