Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Facilities Maintenance Technicians perform cleaning, preventative maintenance, and general repairs for facilities, grounds, buildings, and equipment. Duties include preventative tasks such as fluid replacement and replenishment, filter changes, lubrication, prescribed inspections and cleaning, and other equipment‑specific tasks. Building and grounds maintenance includes mowing/trimming, snow & ice removal, light bulb replacement, basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other services. These technicians may accompany or assist outside contractors performing work in the facility.

- Reads work orders and specifications to determine tasks and priorities; may initiate work orders to track verbal and in‑person maintenance requests.
- Troubleshoots, maintains, and performs basic repair of minor building electrical problems including lamp/bulb changes, ballast, fixture, switch, photocell, and outlet issues; replaces filters on AC and/or downdraft equipment.
- Performs minor repair and maintenance of external building, grounds, plumbing, and other mechanical systems or equipment.
- Monitors fluid levels and adds/changes fluids including coolant to machines; safely transports and stores used coolant for collection by authorized waste vendor.
- Performs facility cleaning including sweeping and mopping floors and other surface cleaning; cleans and sanitizes restrooms, breakrooms, and eyewash stations; empties trash and scrap bins as needed.
- May operate mower, trimmer, or other hand tools to maintain grounds; uses shovels, plow, or other snow & ice removal equipment as necessary.
- Safely and efficiently operates forklift and other material‑handling equipment; may operate overhead or jib cranes.
- Operates motor vehicle to traverse facility and obtain or deliver parts and supplies needed by maintenance personnel.
- Transports parts, tools, equipment and materials needed to perform work; removes debris and inoperable items.
- May inventory and requisition parts, equipment, and supplies; may drive motor vehicle to obtain items not in inventory.
- May record data in ERP, maintenance work order system, or other electronic storage.
- Uses cleaners, solvents, abrasives, power and hand tools, adhesives, lubricants, and other solutions to clean and repair facilities.
- Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work area; returns tools and equipment to appropriate storage areas when not in use.
- May participate in safety committee activities.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures; consistently utilizes all required personal protective equipment (PPE); attends and participates actively in safety training.
- Communicates verbally (English) and follows verbal and written instructions.
- Performs other tasks and/or assignments as required.
- Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is required.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in a similar maintenance role is required; relevant apprenticeship or vocational training in industrial maintenance, building trades, or similar program may be considered in lieu of or in combination with paid work experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Valid Driver's license and acceptable safe driving record to meet insurance requirements.
- Forklift experience is preferred; forklift certification must be obtained upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of facility maintenance required.
- Experience using hand tools and electrical testing equipment is required.
- Small motor repair, hydraulic and/or pneumatic system repair experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- ERP or Work Order system experience is preferred.
