Water Reclamation Operator I or II

Purpose

This position involves operating a water reclamation facility and assisting with maintenance of plant facilities.

Reports to:

Water Reclamation Operator Supervisor.

Coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including weekends and holidays. Possible shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., or 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Regular and predictable attendance is required. May be required to work on religious holidays.

This position is designated as an emergency position and requires attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions.

• Monitor treatment processes and make necessary adjustments.
• Collect wastewater samples and perform standard tests (dissolved oxygen, suspended solids, pH, chlorine residual).
• Monitor performance of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment process.
• Operate and maintain pumps, blowers, feed pumps, centrifuges, chemical feeders, aerators, telescopic settings, wet well pumps, and other decontamination equipment.
• Check lift stations to ensure proper treatment of wastewater.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
• Maintain daily logs and records of samples, test results, and plant operations.
• Maintain inventory and use a computer system to record data.
• Participate in safety meetings and feed hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals to plant systems.
• Assist in shift‑level tasks such as developing cleanup schedules, documenting information for performance evaluations, ensuring proper sampling and chemical additions, and acting as a backup operator.

• High school diploma or equivalent required for both Operator I and Operator II.
• Water Reclamation Operator I:
  Must obtain a state‑certified wastewater treatment license within one year of hire.
• Water Reclamation Operator II:
  Must possess a state‑certified Class II license. Two years of wastewater treatment facility experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• One year of wastewater treatment experience preferred for Operator I; one to two years preferred for Operator II.
• Knowledge of state and local wastewater treatment guidelines, plant operations, and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics, chemistry, and microbiology.
• Skill operating plant equipment, computers, and related software.
• Manual dexterity and physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or 20 pounds frequently.

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and perform repetitive motions. Must handle up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds frequently.
