Position Summary

The Communications and Content Manager is a creative, strategic leader who shapes and shares the story of Franklin College. The role centers on executing a dynamic digital content strategy that communicates the college’s mission, academic excellence, and community impact to external and internal audiences, including prospective and current students, faculty, alumni, donors, government entities, and the broader public.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field
  • 5+ years professional experience in communications, content creation, or a related field
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, academic environment
  • Strong understanding of audience segmentation and comprehensive communication practices
  • Familiarity with messaging, writing, editing, graphic design, visual communications, branding, marketing, advertising, electronic communications, social media, and generative AI tools
  • Ability to communicate technical content to a general audience and a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience working with business/industry, alumni engagement, and development initiatives
  • Experience in a higher education, independent school, or nonprofit environment
  • Strong technical skills using content management systems, email platforms, and social media
  • Significant prior communications experience writing and producing publications and developing and placing stories
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital content strategy that supports the college’s mission and strategic priorities (approximately 60 % of the role)
  • Produce written, visual, and multimedia content, including short‑form videos, email and website marketing, social media posts, faculty, student, and alumni profiles, and print or digital materials (approximately 30 % of the role)
  • Engage internal stakeholders—academic departments, faculty, students, alumni relations, development, student services, IT, government relations, and student ambassadors—to ensure aligned, timely, and effective messaging (approximately 10 % of the role)
  • Present to various stakeholders and represent the college in external communications (flexible)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned (flexible)

  • Strong project‑management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines and coordinate across stakeholders
  • Strategic mindset, creative vision, and adaptability in messaging to resonate with diverse audiences
  • Skilled writer, storyteller, and strategic thinker with a strong digital background who thrives in a fast‑paced academic environment
Physical Demands
  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping; long periods at a computer
  • Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds; occasional evening or weekend work based on college events and activities
Background Investigation
