Public Health Nurse
The Northeast Health District is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Public Health Nurse to join our Home Visiting Program. This is a part-time, hourly position working up to 29 hours per week. The Public Health Nurse provides professional nursing care, case management, and health education in accordance with established nurse protocols, policies, and procedures. This position plays a critical role in promoting maternal and child health, reducing disparities in birth outcomes, and supporting overall community wellness.
Services are provided primarily in community settings through frequent home visits to an assigned caseload of pregnant and postpartum women and/or infants. Extensive travel throughout the Northeast Health District's 10-county service area is required. The primary work location and service area may be determined based on the employee's residence to best support the needs of the community.
Hourly Rate: $45.00/hour
Work Schedule:
This is a part-time, hourly position. Employees may work up to 29 hours per week. The work schedule may vary based on client needs, home visits, and program requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver case management and nursing care according to public health protocols.
- Provide services focused on health promotion, illness prevention, and decreasing infant mortality.
- Conduct home visits and community outreach services to high-risk perinatal women and infants.
- Perform physical assessments, obtain vital signs, conduct fetal monitoring, and perform basic laboratory screenings.
- Provide breastfeeding education and counseling and refer clients to appropriate social and health services.
- Maintain accurate records of patient care, services, and responses to treatment.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and community partners.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license, CPR certification, and completion of the Public Health Nurse (PHN) course within one (1) year of hire. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience providing care to high-risk prenatal patients.
- Experience providing care to high-risk newborns and infants.
- Home visitation experience.
- One (1) year of labor and delivery experience.
- One (1) year of experience in a prenatal care clinic.
- One (1) year of experience working with mothers and infants.
Employment Information:

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.
