Licensed Veterinary Technician with experience in a surgery based hospital setting.
Position Summary:
The primary purpose and function of the Licensed Veterinary Technician is to support veterinarians in ensuring quality veterinary care, advocating for pets, and educating clients. For Anesthesia, the LVT assists the senior veterinary and veterinary technician students with anesthetic management for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures. Performing and teaching competent catheter (venous, arterial, urinary) placement, regional anesthetic nerve blocks, and intubation skills in a variety of species.
Ensuring the successful recovery of post anesthesia patients. Accurate maintenance of controlled drug log and anesthesia patient records. Maintenance and care of anesthesia related equipment. Stocking and maintenance of assigned crash cart.

- Assist the senior veterinary and veterinary technician students with anesthetic management for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures with both large and small animals.
- Use of a variety of anesthetic and pain management agents.
- Performing and teaching competent catheter placement, regional anesthetic nerve blocks, and intubation skills in a variety of species.
- Ensuring the successful recovery of post anesthesia patients.
- Accurate maintenance of controlled drug log and anesthesia patient records.
- Appropriate and legal handling of controlled substances.
- Ensuring proper charges for anesthesia cases, and submitting and checking lab work and imaging results through the hospital computer system.
- Emergency/after hours duty is needed on a rotating basis.
Percentage of time: 50% - Duties/Responsibilities
- Collection of blood, urine by expression, cystocentesis or catheterization.
- Collection and preparation of tissue, cellular, or microbiological samples by skin scraping, impressions.
- Routine laboratory test procedures.
- Radiology including settings, positioning, processing, and safety.
- Intravenous and arterial catheterization.
- Administration and application of treatments, drugs, fluids, medications, and immunological agents by oral, parenteral, and injectable routes.
Percentage of time: 25% - Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintenance and care of anesthesia related equipment.
- Stocking, cleaning, and maintenance of the anesthesia prep area, crash carts, and ORs.
