Grounds Keeper II
Position Summary:
This position provides direct supervision over part‑time, temporary labor engaged in routine grounds work. Responsibilities include supervising and participating in the maintenance of shrubs, flower beds, and turf, landscaping around facilities, and ensuring workers have the necessary tools and equipment. Work assignments are received daily and may arise as needed. Work is reviewed through regular inspections.
- Participate in grounds maintenance, pest management, and landscape activities.
- Help supervise part‑time and temporary labor crews in grounds maintenance and landscaping.
- Oversee and/or participate in the application of pesticides and/or fertilizers at the UGA Griffin Campus.
- Review work performed by labor crews to ensure grounds maintenance and landscape activities meet standards.
- Demonstrate and teach techniques on proper use of equipment used in grounds maintenance and landscaping.
- Perform related work as necessary, including driving a dump truck, operating light construction equipment, and supervising assembly and moving of grounds furniture (picnic tables, benches, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of horticulture and landscaping techniques, experience with various equipment, and excellent management skills.
Well versed in hazards and safety precautions in general labor and maintenance work; familiar with various types of grounds‑keeping equipment.
Physical DemandsWorking outside under adverse climate conditions; heavy lifting, digging, stooping, squatting, walking, climbing, hands above head; proper use and operation of landscape equipment; driving as needed.
