Part-time Recreation Leader - Outdoor Recreation

Class Summary

This is a part‑time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.

The Part‑time Recreation Leader will assist with the operations of the Outdoor Recreation team, including supervision of program participants in a variety of areas while assisting the public. The position is responsible for planning and implementing Outdoor Recreation programs, camps, activities, and outdoor classes. The staff is directly supervised by the full‑time Outdoor Recreation Coordinator. Must be able to work a variety of hours, Sunday–Saturday, holidays, daytime and evening scheduling.

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the facility
• Assist with program implementation and development
• Collect fees for admissions, comply with all cash handling procedures, and ensure appropriate paperwork is completed for programs
• Assist with designing programs for youth, adult, and family groups
• Process and manage class registrations, spreadsheets, and databases
• Complete room reservations, provide site tours, participant check‑ins, and communication before, during, and after events
• Set up and tear down tables, rooms, chairs, exhibits, and wedding rentals
• Deal and interact with the public
• Monitor and supervise all activities and participants in a variety of areas, including classes, camps, programs, daily rentals, and after‑hours rentals
• Oversee volunteers, assist special interest groups and special events
• Document first aid accidents and all incidents, assist in placing phone calls, flag down medical personnel, and provide crowd control during emergencies
• Support logistics for outdoor events, including site preparation, equipment setup, and volunteer coordination
• Serve as backup when the Outdoor Coordinator is unavailable
• Support outreach efforts to increase community participation and awareness of Gwinnett Parks and Recreation’s green spaces
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• Must be available to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
• This position will require a 50‑pound lift test.

$16.80 per hour

• High School Diploma or GED, AND
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered
• One year of experience in the related field
• Valid driver's license
• Experience in Parks and Recreation and customer service
• Problem‑solving skills in interpersonal relations and oral and written communications, effective customer service techniques and instructing and supervising others
• Skill in developing resources for program/service information
• Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to drive a 15‑passenger van
• Must have reliable transportation
• Knowledge of Gwinnett County Park locations

• Experience in recreation programming, event planning, supervision, customer service, and scheduling experience
• Proficient Microsoft Office experience
• CPR/First Aid/Defibrillator Certification (must be attached to application) or must obtain within the first 3 months of employment (Gwinnett County will provide training opportunity)
