Position Summary

The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) supports veterinarians in providing quality veterinary care, advocating for pets, and educating clients. For anesthesia, the LVT assists senior veterinary and veterinary technician students with anesthetic management for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures, performs and teaches catheter placement, regional anesthetic nerve blocks, and intubation skills in a variety of species, and ensures successful recovery of post‑anesthesia patients.

Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or professional certificate.
  • Preferred:
    Licensed Veterinary Technician with experience in a surgery‑based hospital setting.
  • Licensed as a Veterinary Technician in the state of Georgia.
Responsibilities
  • Assist senior veterinary and veterinary technician students with anesthetic management for a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures in large and small animals.
  • Use a variety of anesthetic and pain management agents.
  • Perform and teach competent catheter (venous, arterial, urinary) placement, regional anesthetic nerve blocks, and intubation skills in a variety of species.
  • Ensure the successful recovery of post‑anesthesia patients.
  • Accurately maintain controlled drug log and anesthesia patient records; handle controlled substances legally.
  • Ensure proper charges for anesthesia cases and submit/check laboratory work and imaging results through the hospital computer system.
  • Participate in emergency/after‑hours duty on a rotating basis.
  • Maintain and care for anesthesia‑related equipment and stock, clean, and maintain the anesthesia prep area, crash carts, and operating rooms.
