Position Summary
Masters graduate position available starting in Summer 2021 in the Plant Virology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, The University of Georgia‑Tifton. The successful applicant will contribute to a project involving insect‑transmitted viruses, their characterization, and epidemiology in crops such as vegetable, peanut, and cotton grown in the region. The goal is to study virus‑vector and virus‑host interactions in cotton crops important to Georgia, apply genomics approaches for host resistance, and disseminate findings through conferences, symposia, and peer‑reviewed publications.
Duties & Responsibilities- Work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field environments to study the molecular epidemiology of insect‑transmitted viruses.
- Develop research designs, diagnostic tools, data analysis and interpretation plans.
- Manage projects, summarize results, and prepare formal presentations for meetings and symposiums.
- Continue graduate‑student coursework to earn credit.
- Write reports and present data at symposiums.
- Recent undergraduate with a major in molecular biology, plant science, plant biology, biochemistry, or biotechnology and GPA ≥ 3.5.
- Experience in plant virology laboratories, and exposure to field, greenhouse, and molecular labs is an added advantage.
- High GRE score; good TOEFL score as per UGA guidelines.
- Prior experience and exposure to molecular techniques and field analysis are preferred.
Light lifting, sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
