This post serves as the research technician in the laboratory of Dr. Arthi Kanthasamy. The lab conducts NIH‑funded basic research on neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory mechanisms using cell culture and preclinical mouse models of Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. Translational projects focus on biomarker discovery in human samples and testing novel therapeutics in animal models.
Responsibilities- Execute experimental design, assay optimization, and validation; collect and analyze data for behavioral, neurobiochemical, and histological assays (40%).
- Assist graduate students and senior research staff with experimental protocols, inventory management, and maintenance of research supplies and equipment (35%).
- Communicate project status to supervisors, write reports, and present findings; maintain accurate and confidential records (15%).
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor (10%).
- Technical knowledge in a relevant field acquired through apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or a professional certificate.
- Experience or willingness to conduct research and perform experimental techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accurate documentation.
- Capacity to work in a sometimes‑stressful environment and demonstrate critical thinking.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and consult with diverse stakeholders.
- Basic computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- Prior experience with mouse work is highly preferred.
- Lift up to 30 pounds.
- Work with small delicate equipment as well as large heavy items.
- Wear appropriate protective gear (mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles).
- Remain in positions with arms extended for extended periods.
- Handle stressful situations.
