Minimum Qualifications Position Summary

The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia is searching for an Undergraduate Intern to work jointly with researchers involved in the PERSEUS (Promoting Economic Resilience and Sustainability of the Eastern US Forests) project. The goal of the PERSEUS project is to provide scientifically sound information, outreach, and educational opportunities that lay the foundation for a paradigm shift in forestry toward data-driven, AI-supported, forest management systems that increase both the provision of ecosystem services and operational efficiency under the uncertainty of climate change.

There are four major task areas:
Measurement, Modeling, Management (extension), and Mindset (education). We envision the Intern initially interacting with investigators in each of the task areas, then focusing on and assisting with one or more individual efforts related to these.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Undergraduate student actively seeking a bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental resource management, or a closely related major that strongly emphasizes and includes coursework involving geographic information systems, remote sensing, or artificial intelligence.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with research groups. An interest in the management, modeling, and analysis of geographic data, and the ability to work independently.
