Duties / Responsibilities
  • Data cleaning and analysis
  • Literature review
  • Research logistics support
  • Decision analysis preparation
  • Assist PhD student with alligator research project on population size, structure, and uncertainty analysis
  • Attend meetings with collaborators
  • Plan and facilitate a structured decision‑making workshop with alligator experts
  • Participate in field observations of alligator data collection (e.g., nighttime spotlight surveys, mark‑recapture)
  • Potential to expand work into undergraduate Honors thesis or scientific manuscript (within hiring period)
Position Summary

The University is seeking a motivated individual with interest in quantitative ecology and decision analysis to support a research project on American alligators. The technician will assist PhD student Kaili Gregory and a multi‑agency collaboration involving the Warnell School of Forestry, the U.S. Geological Survey’s Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Responsibilities include literature review, data exploration, cleaning, analysis in R, and workshop facilitation.

Travel for workshop facilitation is covered. Primary work will be in‑office with occasional field observation.

Qualifications

Education / Experience: At least 2 years of undergraduate experience in a relevant field (e.g., Wildlife Conservation, Natural Resources, Biology, Conservation Science).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Experience with R; detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, willing to learn literature review, coding, programming, and decision analysis; ability to work collaboratively with graduate students, faculty and GDNr biologists.

Physical Demands

Computer work, occasional outdoor work with exposure to weather conditions.
