Position Summary
The post‑doctoral research associate will work on identifying diverse thiosulfinate tolerance gene clusters in bacterial pathogens affecting Alliums. The role will functionally validate these clusters, assess their role in tolerating thiosulfinate in vitro and in vivo, and allow opportunities to study molecular docking and identify suitable candidates that render bacteria sensitive to thiosulfinates in Alliums. The incumbent will take a leadership role in data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation, work closely with key industry stakeholders, supervise undergraduates, and present results at local and national conferences.
Responsibilities- Utilize state‑of‑the‑art technologies, including genomics and computational biology, to identify novel thiosulfinate gene clusters in diverse bacterial pathogens affecting Alliums.
- Work closely with industry stakeholders, train undergraduate and graduate students, maintain records related to research projects, synthesize data, and present results at local and national conferences; prepare scientific manuscripts for publication.
- Investigate pathosystems that include onion, garlic, and Japanese bunching onion.
PhD in plant pathology or biochemistry with an emphasis on bioinformatics.
Knowledge & SkillsWorking understanding and experience with host and pathogen genomes.
Physical DemandsLight lifting, standing and/or sitting for extended periods. Driving as needed to perform job duties.
