Research Assistant/Associate
Position Summary
This position is for 14 months and may be renewed for a longer period of time based on funding. This individual will serve as the research technician for forest health, silviculture, and forest productivity work. The position provides support, both fieldwork and lab work, to the two Assistant Professors and one Professor. The successful candidate will be housed in Tifton at the UGA Research Center.
Minimum QualificationsRequires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Responsibilities- Fieldwork – set up research plots (20%)
- Field work – collect tree and insect data at research plots (20%)
- Laboratory work – sort insect samples, identify insect specimens, catalog specimens (20%)
- Laboratory work – various routine laboratory organizing and project preparation work (10%)
- Data entry – accurately record and store data (30%)
- Driving (required)
Stand for long periods of time, to withstand hot and humid summer field conditions. Lift 50 pounds over one’s head. This position may work with hazardous chemicals. Driving.
