Position Summary
The vegetable entomology research laboratory conducts investigation into how pest insects affect vegetable productivity in Georgia and how to best control these pests. Current tasks include maintaining insect colonies (e.g., whitefly and diamondback moth), collecting and processing samples, and entering data. Specific tasks include rapidly identifying and counting small insects under a stereo microscope, maintaining plant food for insect colonies, planting seeds/seedlings for colonies and/or research tests, scouting, and other duties related to entomological field research.
Duties/Responsibilities- Rapidly identify and count small insects under a stereo microscope.
- Assist with insect colonies.
- Plant seeds/seedlings and perform related entomological research tasks.
- Look through the stereo microscope for hours at a time to perform insect counts.
- Lift soil tubs and standard potting trays with full pots.
- Be punctual for assigned work times.
- Drive to field sites.
- Perform some field work.
