Position Summary
A Research Technician will assist with projects and tasks in the laboratory, greenhouse, and office to support a plant genomics research laboratory. This position involves laboratory and greenhouse work with a diverse set of plant species, preparation of culture media, reagents, buffers, and other solutions, and performing tissue culture while maintaining collections of clonally propagated plants.
Responsibilities- Plant, maintain, and harvest plants with minimal instruction.
- Collect material for experiments; perform crosses; mix soil; fill pots; clean greenhouses and growth chambers.
- Prepare culture media, reagents, buffers, and other solutions.
- Perform tissue culture and maintain collections of clonally propagated plants in good health.
- Independently maintain inventory and order supplies.
- Maintain a clean and sterile lab environment.
- Assist with administrative duties such as package shipping and receiving, mail retrieval, and answering phones.
- High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of related experience.
- High school diploma required with some college education preferred; experience in laboratory, greenhouse, and aseptic technique is preferred.
- Proficiency in laboratory, greenhouse, and aseptic technique.
- Strong organizational skills, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.), and the ability to communicate and multitask.
- Meticulous, punctual, and reliable.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of basic plant life cycle and genetics.
- Competency in basic laboratory techniques.
- Knowledge of lab protocols and equipment.
- Utilize computer technology for all applications in a manner that meets performance expectations.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, both assisted and unassisted.
