Research Scientist, Clinical Research
Position Summary
The University of Georgia Microbiome Research group is seeking a motivated and hardworking postdoctoral fellow to support and develop novel approaches to collect, analyze, and interpret human microbiome data to better understand the healthy and diseased microbiome. The role focuses on how the microbiome, particularly the gastrointestinal system, changes across diverse individuals spanning multiple age groups, sexes, ethnicities, and other key population demographics, and how it shifts in acute and chronic disease states such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, and cancer.
Key responsibilities include work in metagenomics and metatranscriptomics, and the summarization and analysis of other large datasets such as population demographics.
Supervision:
The successful candidate will work under the direction of Drs. Jeferson Lourenco and Franklin West, belonging to a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities- 85%:
Collect and analyze data. - 5%:
Write and report research. - 10%:
Present results to the scientific community and for publication.
- Ph.D. in data science, animal science, microbiome, quantitative and computational sciences or related fields.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven publication record preferred.
- Experience in Python, including QIIME/QIIME
2. - Experience with R and packages such as Phyloseq, DESeq2, ANCOM, or PICRUSt.
- Experience in pipelines for shotgun sequencing, metatranscriptomics, proteomics, and/or metabolomics.
- Familiarity with statistical analyses using linear, mixed, and non-linear models and non-parametric techniques for large datasets.
