Position SummaryThis position seeks to understand the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, with an emphasis in nematode effector biology.
Responsibilities- Conduct research in the lab (70% time):
The incumbent will carry out research on the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, identify nematode genes important for parasitism and overcoming host plant resistance, characterize host target genes essential for compatibility and resistance, handle and analyze genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets, clone candidate plant and nematode genes, and use a variety of molecular and genetic approaches to characterize the function of these genes in nematode parasitism in both crop and model plant systems. - Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures (5% time):
The incumbent will care for plants and/or pathogen cultures required for executing research experiments, involving planting, watering, and harvesting of seed and/or propagating the necessary nematode cultures. - Collect and analyze data (10% time):
The incumbent will collect data from experiments and analyze it directly and in collaboration with the PI. - Writing and reporting of research (5% time):
The incumbent is expected to summarize and regularly discuss research results in both written and oral format with the PI. He/she will prepare research updates, prepare periodic research reports in collaboration with the PI and required for granting agencies. - Present results to the scientific community and for publication (5% time):
The incumbent will present research results at professional scientific meetings at local, national and international venues. - Supervision of student workers (5% time):
The incumbent will supervise student workers and provide mentorship along with the PI to undergraduate researchers that assist with research in the laboratory.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, CertificationPhD in molecular nematology, molecular plant‑microbe interactions, plant molecular biology/genetics, plant development, or related field within the past 4 years.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesDemonstrated knowledge and research experience in molecular plant‑microbe interactions, plant and/or nematode molecular biology and genetics. Preferred candidates will have experience that includes statistical and bioinformatics analyses and plant transformation in either crop or model plant systems. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated publication record in peer‑reviewed journals, proficiency in written and spoken English, and proven ability to work independently and on an interdisciplinary team.
