Job Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia is accepting applications for a postdoctoral research associate position within the Precision One Health Initiative. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to work on highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) vaccine related projects.
This position focuses on the development of vectored vaccines and replicon vaccines against HPAIV. The successful candidate will develop recombinant viral vectors and conduct vaccine efficacy trials in animal models. The laboratory utilizes adeno‑associated virus (AAV) for antibody delivery, and the candidate will gain experience on AAV‑mediated gene delivery.
The candidate will generate recombinant viral vectors expressing influenza antigens, perform cell culture and virus culture, conduct advanced virological and immunological assays, prepare next‑generation sequencing libraries, conduct animal experiments in BSL‑2 and BSL‑3 facilities, analyze and interpret data, present findings at conferences, prepare manuscripts, and mentor graduate and undergraduate laboratory members.
Responsibilities- Clone influenza antigens into viral vectors.
- Design and conduct vaccine trials in animal models.
- Perform immunological and virological analyses on experimental samples.
- Develop adeno‑associated virus (AAV) vectors expressing broadly neutralizing antibodies.
- Maintain virus stocks; perform virus isolation, titration and neutralization assays.
- Conduct bioinformatics and statistical data analysis.
- Mentor junior lab members and present research findings at national and international meetings.
- PhD in Virology or a related biomedical science.
- Training in molecular cloning and virus culture, and experience with animal models.
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (Graph Pad Prism, RStudio).
- Experience with flow cytometry and next‑generation sequencing data analysis (preferred).
- Previous experience in a BSL‑3 laboratory (desirable).
- Citizenship is required due to federal security requirements for conducting research at the USDA facility.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively; willingness to mentor junior members.
Applicants must apply through the UGA job portal and submit the following materials:
