Position Summary

The applicant will participate in switch grass and turfgrass disease management by breeding for disease resistance and exploring for biocontrol agents. The applicant will work on identifying sources of disease resistance, carrying out functional analysis of gene expression, developing collections of plant pathogens and mycoparasites, studying pathogen population structure, and investigating parasite‑pathogen‑plant interactions. The candidate will work in collaboration with plant breeders, molecular biologists, plant pathologists and extension faculty.

The candidate will help in drafting papers and grant proposals.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or another relevant field.
  • Experience with rust diseases in grasses.
  • Experience with Genotyping-by-Sequencing and RNAseq library preparation.
  • Experience in parasite‑pathogen interactions.
  • Experience with Claviceps pathogens.
  • Experience with pathogen population genetic analysis.
  • Experience with field disease phenotyping, QTL mapping, GWAS analysis, and bioinformatics.
  • Interest and experience in collaborative research, background in pathogen population genetics, plant breeding, molecular genetics, genomics or another relevant background.
Physical Demands

Field and greenhouse work. Driving.

Additional Information

Driving is a requirement. Security access is required. No P‑Card or financial control responsibilities.
